Pilot triggers kidnapping alert
Last Monday, a Lufthansa pilot set off a false alarm when approaching Frankfurt Airport.
The machine previously had technical problems with communication. The pilot was able to hear air traffic control via radio, but his signal could not be received. To report the problem the pilot had to enter a code, but he entered a wrong one and reported an abduction.
The alarm triggered a series of measures; crisis teams at the federal and state police as well as the army were alerted. For 15 minutes, Lufthansa and the authorities assumed a kidnapping until the pilot discovered his mistake and gave the all-clear.
The passengers arriving from Aberdeen were not aware of the incident and landed safely in Frankfurt with some delay.
