To: All Ships Transiting In/Off Nigerian Waters /Benin Waters /Gulf Of Guinea
Warning Warning Warning
The Centre has received 16 incidents in/off Nigerian waters and Four incidents in Benin Waters/Anchorage since 1.1.2018. Pirates target vessels to rob/kidnap crew/vessels for ransom.
Vessels transiting the area or anchoring are advised to exercise extreme caution and remain vigilant. Adhere to the Industry and IMO Recommendations on Anti Piracy.
Ships intend to drift are advised to drift more than 200 nm preferably 250 nm away from the coast and to go for direct berthing if possible. Early assessment / detection will allow ships to take evasive measures to prevent boarding and request for assistance.
All attacks and suspicious sightings should be reported to local authorities and to the IMB PRC as per IMO Cir. 1334.
